Hand and Wrist

Choosing a Wrist, Thumb or Combined Brace

Start with the area that needs support. Wrist braces restrict wrist movement while leaving the thumb free, thumb braces stabilise the thumb while allowing more wrist movement, and combined braces support both areas. The range includes DonJoy, Aircast and ProCare options in all three formats.

Wrist support for sprains and carpal tunnel symptoms

The DuoForm Universal Wrist Immobiliser is intended for wrist sprains and trauma, while the Aircast A2 restricts wrist movement for a range of wrist injuries. For carpal tunnel symptoms, a brace that keeps the wrist straight is commonly recommended, particularly at night. Persistent numbness, tingling or weakness should be assessed because treatment depends on the cause.

Thumb support for arthritis and injury

The RhizoForm is designed for rhizarthrosis, or osteoarthritis at the base of the thumb. The ErgoForm immobilises the thumb for indications including sprains, subluxations, dislocations and rhizarthrosis. If both the wrist and thumb need support, the RespiForm+ includes wrist stays and a malleable thumb stay for conditions such as wrist-and-thumb sprains, trauma and tendinopathy.

Choosing the right size and side

Some braces are universal, while others require a left or right model and a wrist or hand measurement. Check the individual chart before ordering. Severe pain after a fall, deformity, sudden loss of strength or a suspected fracture needs medical assessment rather than a brace alone.
